TranSwitch provides intellectual property (IP) cores for Fast Ethernet (10/100) and Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) PHY applications, plus engineering services to customize these cores for specific applications. Ethernet
Ethernet is the most widely installed local area network (LAN) technology. Ethernet is not circuit-oriented. Unlike TDM, voice, data, video, and other services are not assigned to fixed time-slots within Ethernet frames, and there is not a requirement within Ethernet for frames to be regularly transmitted at precise intervals. PDH (Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy) is a legacy TDM technology for delivering voice, data, video, and other services over twisted copper wire and coaxial cable via T1, E1, T3, and E3 circuits. SONET/SDH
SONET/SDH is a set of related TDM standards for transport over fiber optic networks. Services are inserted into and extracted from SONET/SDH frames through a process called mapping. TranSwitch's synchronous VLSI devices are used to enable transmission products to access and configure the public network. Typical applications include Internet access multiplexers, digital cross-connects, and high-speed video transport.
