Our Profile
A Leading Innovator
TranSwitch Corporation (NASDAQ: TXCC)
is a leading innovator of high-speed VLSI solutions - microchips -which,
as key components in telecommunications and data
communications equipment, enable people throughout the world
to communicate more readily, affordably, and reliably via voice, fax,
e-mail, and multimedia. TranSwitch's customers are the Original
Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) who supply systems for three
communications end markets: the Public Network Infrastructure, the
Internet Infrastructure, and Corporate Wide Area Networks (WANs).
Technologically and commercially, these markets are converging.
Public Network Service Providers such as the Regional Bell
Operating Companies (RBOCs) are aggressively promoting Internet
service along with telephone service because the Internet offers
greater revenue growth. This drives up the volume of data vs. voice
traffic in the Public Networks. Dedicated Internet Service Providers
such as AOL utilize the Public Network Infrastructure as well as
their own facilities, further boosting Public Network data traffic.
And as the Public Network Infrastructure becomes more intelligent,
with the capability to provide virtual private networks for data
applications, Corporate Wide Area Networks are evolving from
privately owned and maintained provided services to turnkey services
delivered by Public Network Service Providers - yet further raising
Public Network data volume.
The net effect of these trends, we believe, will be one voice/data
network, optimized for cost-effective, high-speed data and voice
service flow, delivering any service, anywhere. Voice traffic will be
transported as data packets in the future with special care towards
the quality requirements of real-time conversation. This represents
a sea change.
Historically, data services have been overlaid on legacy networks
built to handle voice traffic. Going forward, data will drive the
network while voice comes along for the ride. TranSwitch's strategy
is to create and supply key VLSI building blocks that will enable
service providers to transition from today's voice-based legacy
networks to truly data-centric, next-generation networks.
We are developing the VLSI solutions for the areas of greatest
demand:
- Access Networks
- Metropolitan Networks
Whereas the network core in the United States is actually overbuilt,
today and for the near-term, the access and metropolitan network
spaces cry out for more capacity, intelligence, and flexibility.
TranSwitch Connectivity Engines, as we call our solutions, will
provide these needed attributes, giving our OEM customers a time-to-
market edge while enabling their products to set new standards
in capability and cost/performance. Unlike competitive VLSI solutions,
our Connectivity Engines are user-programmable, enabling them to
serve new applications through cost-effective software changes
instead of costly and time-consuming silicon changes.
